The original collection tells the story of Laocoon’s tragic end as depicted in Homer’s Odyssey where he bravely fought against gods but was tortured during Trojan war. This version of Laocoon like many other ancient statues reconstructed by Galleria Romanelli is characterized by its liveliness and accurate depiction of human form through anatomy study and muscularity. The tension of this moment can be felt from his tight belly to the weary eyes reflecting hopelessness on top of everything else.
